CeDAR Connects Alumni Newsletter

August 19th, 2021 | Volume 3

Welcome to Volume 3 of CeDAR Connects, our new monthly newsletter offering you the latest CeDAR news. CeDAR Connects allows me an opportunity to share the many ways in which you can engage your recovery and get involved with our community.

I've been busy crafting and collaborating this past month in an effort to diversify our program offerings for both patients and alumni.
Head Shot
CeDAR serves a broad spectrum of people, ranging from varied age groups, professions and backgrounds. It has always been my aim to collaborate within our alumni community and partner with our extended recovery community so we are able to offer a little of something for everyone. After all, this community is for everyone and so I very much want our programming to reflect that. If you have ideas, reach out and let's get to work!

I am available for virtual & in-person one-on-ones. We can discuss recovery planning, relapse prevention, service opportunities & more! If you'd like to join our private CeDAR Alumni Facebook group, click here to add me & I will send you an invite.

Announcements:

New Alumni Support Group:
We've launched a new drop-in virtual alumni support group. The aim for this group is to simply offer an additional layer of support for community members. Alumni are free to share their recovery challenges & successes while seeking supportive feedback from their peers. This is a great way to connect with others and build a support network.

New Support Group for Retirees:
At the suggestion of one of our alumni, Gayla T, we are starting a virtual support group for retirees. Not to limit our reach, the group will welcome those who are 50+, even if you are not yet retired. The group will start on September 1st and be offered on Wednesdays 1pm-2pm MST. Reach out if you'd like to get involved!

CeDAR Partners with YPR:
We have collaborated with Young People in Recovery to offer a 10-week life-skills virtual course through a program called EPIC. Modules include topics such as healthy relationships, employment and finances. Contrary to the name, YPR is open to all individuals, of any age, who could benefit from such services. EPIC will be offered to CeDAR patients, of all levels of care, and alumni beginning on September 7th. Courses will be held on Tuesday evenings from 6:30pm-8pm. You can drop-in to any course you feel could benefit you. Please check the Facebook group or Google Doc for virtual login information.

Recovery Meetings:

We've got a robust calendar of virtual & in-person recovery meetings to explore. If you are an out-of-town alumni, tuning in virtually could be a great way for you to re-connect to your favorite meetings from when you were a patient. And, if you are a Metro-area alum, we are now offering 4 in-person meetings at CeDAR: SMART Recovery, CA Whiteout, CeDAR Alumni, Recovery Dharma. I encourage "seasoned" alumni (2+ years) to get involved. Our patients & newer alumni would appreciate your presence & experience. Plus, I'd love to see some faces I haven't seen in a while!

We Do Recover...

Whenever I'm in a meeting with Tyler and he is speaking, my ears perk up because I know I am going to hear some fresh perspective. His alumni spotlight reads the same. Special thanks to Jean for her time interviewing alumni, Tyler C.
S.AF.E Fun in Recovery:
In this month's recovery resource spotlight, we catch up with the maestro behind Sober AF Entertainment, Duke Rumely, a true tour-de-force. Sober AF provides a community for recovering people to enjoy sporting and music events. Click to learn more.
