CeDAR Connects Alumni Newsletter

October 21st, 2021 | Volume 5

"Everything on its own time." This was something a past spiritual coach used to say to me during my early recovery. I had all but forgotten about this mantra until I started working with CeDAR's Alumni Community and found myself saying it both to others and myself. It reminds me to show myself grace and that every idea blooms on its own time - when the conditions are right.
Head Shot
One aspect I absolutely love about my role is how expansive it is. There is no creative ceiling. Especially in the spirit of collaboration, which, by the way, is one the Alumni Program's core values. My responsibility is to provide a collaborative platform for you all to freely exchange ideas. This allows you to feel ownership of the program. When you feel a sense of contribution & ownership, you are more likely to get involved and stay involved. Our Alumni Program is a peer-led program, meaning we need each of you, in your own unique way, to show up. Your presence is what makes our community a vibrant one that patients want to be a part of. I am so excited for you to continue reading and learn about previously planted ideas that have reached their time. And, when you read about the launch of these ideas, I hope it encourages you to begin planting the seeds for ideas that will come to bloom in the future, of course, on their own time.

I am available for virtual & in-person 1:1's. We can discuss recovery planning, relapse prevention, service opportunities & more! Reach out to get scheduled. If you'd like to join our private CeDAR Alumni Facebook group, click here. And, we'd love for you to give CeDAR a follow on Facebook. We encourage you to like & comment!

CeDAR's 10th Annual Gratitude Meeting:

It's nearly that time of year again! While I so wish we could gather in-person for our beloved Gratitude Meeting, especially because this year marks 10 years since starting the tradition, we will again be gathering virtually. Last year, we had over 100 people attend virtually and we expect no different this year! Fingers crossed we will be able to gather in the lecture hall come 2022, of course, with a hybrid option.

For those who may not know, every year, on Thanksgiving morning, we hold what is called a Gratitude Meeting, welcoming patients, alumni, families, staff and friends of CeDAR. It is an opportunity to reflect, in gratitude, on the past year. It is a highlight of the year for many, including myself.

The meeting will be held on Thursday, November 25th from 10am-12pm MST (open-house style). All are welcome!

    Sober October Activities:

October 23rd: Pumpkin carving party at The Phoenix Denver 7pm. Pumpkins, cocoa & cookies will be provided. We will have an alumni crew! Sign-up here.
October 30th: Halloween party at The Phoenix Denver 7pm. Music, costume contest and fellowship. Sign-up here.
October 30th: Sober October Fest at ParadigmOne 1pm. Family friendly festive event! Learn more here.

    Recovery Meetings:

Please take a look at our current calendar as there have been a few changes. Most notably, CA White Out is no longer meeting virtually on Mondays, only in-person on Wednesdays. We also made the call to only offer in-person alumni on the last Thursday of the month, which is Milestone Night. We encourage you to attend on 10/28 to get your sobriety chip, CeDAR swag, snacks & a recovery photo op. Family is welcome!

Calling all alumni with 2+ years of recovery: I encourage you to get involved with attending in-house meetings. Our patients always love and appreciate when alumni show up!

    We Do Recover!

For this month's alumni feature, I sit down with someone many of you will likely recognize from White Out, Brittany W. Brittany, who just recently celebrated 3 years in recovery, shares about her determined path into treatment.

    When Pen Hits Paper

Many of you have likely read Alumni Contributor, Jean U's., newsletter articles on recovery resources. What you may not know, however, is that she is a local recovery resource herself. In this month's spotlight we learn of her unique offering for the recovery community!

    New Programming:

This is an open meeting so please feel free to share with anyone who could benefit from such recovery space! Meetings open with a guided meditation, encourage cross-talk and close with intention/goal setting.
