If you've spent any time in The Rooms, you've probably heard the adage "stay in the middle." This seems to have been a recurrent theme in meetings and discussions over the past two weeks. What does staying in the middle mean to you? Protection and centeredness come to mind for me. Your middle, represented through community and a recovery program, also helps to stabilize you amidst the ever-changing tides of life. Transitions, whether viewed favorably or unfavorably, can throw us out of our rhythm and routine. As a result, we may find ourselves not in

the middle, but instead on the outskirts. The drift has led us to a lonely and familiar place where we don't have the shelter of community that staying in the middle provides. This is when we are most vulnerable to returning to use. So, now may be a good time to ask yourself: am in the middle? Am I centered in my recovery? What is out of balance? Am I reaching out to other recovering people? If I am in the middle, how can I maintain that positioning? Bringing awareness to this and developing the willingness to take action is the practice of relapse prevention, the practice of recovery. No matter how lonely it gets, trust that you can always return. Myself and the entire alumni community are always here with an outstretched hand. There's strength in numbers.
Who wants to grab coffee?! I am available to meet virtually or in-person local to CeDAR. This is a great opportunity to talk about anything you may need recovery support with. Schedule a Coffee Talk and I'll bring you some CeDAR swag, too!

Ch-ch-ch-Changes:

Change can be hard, but these on-campus changes are much welcomed!
  • Beginning August 22nd, we will welcome back folks for in-person IOP. Groups will be held M, W and TH from 5:30pm-8:30pm. PHP (Partial Hospitalization Program), is also now meeting in-person.
  • We're under construction! The ADU and Cottages A and B are getting a much needed facelift complete with new safety features, new furniture and new artwork. Construction is expected to be finished in the coming months. Upon completion, the detox program will move back to The ADU (Assessment Detox Building)!
  • Speaking of new artwork, we would love to feature our many talented alumni as a means of offering residents a little bit of hope and inspiration. If you would like to submit a drawing, painting or even a poem to be hung on CeDAR walls, let me know. I can also provide examples of some of the themes we're aiming for.

Where Anything Grows:

You could say things are getting pretty serious: The garden has a new name, Roots of Recovery Garden, and now we have a logo. How cool is this sign?! This is a prototype of what will be a larger version to be hung at the garden entry. We are hoping to soon host a dedication ceremony of sorts. We are always looking for garden volunteers, if you're interested, give me a shout!
