CeDAR Connects Alumni Newsletter

February 16th, 2023 | Volume 20

Shift happens. Does anyone else feel like the tectonic plates of life are moving and shifting at a faster rate and with more intensity than in years past? For myself and many CeDAR Alumni I've talked with, this seems to be true. It's actually been pretty incredible to both experience and witness the many unfolding events which carve out new beginnings, some of which are welcomed while others are grieved as they're usually precipitated by some type of loss. Trying to find solid ground amidst the shifting can be a true challenge.
Head Shot
What we once relied up on as solid is now tentative and in some in some cases, eroding. Fortunately, recovery offers us a formidable bedrock for us to find stability. What I mean by that is that no matter where life shifts us to, we have the proper navigation tools to help us find our way. During times as such we must remind ourselves to keep it simple and to recall what has worked for us in the past; the solutions are always the same. For me, it's doing my best to be where my feet are, reminding myself that small action is still a step forward and most importantly, I'm not alone and neither are you, no matter what that voice tells you. If you're feeling like you need to reconnect to community, tune into the alumni meeting tonight at 7pm.
Who wants to grab coffee?! I am available to meet virtually or in-person local to CeDAR. This is a great opportunity to talk about anything you may need recovery support with. Schedule a Coffee Talk and I'll bring you some CeDAR swag, too!

We Are Fam-ily!

I'm really excited to announce that after months of waiting for the right time we are going to revive the Unity recovery support group for the LGBTQIA+ community including allies. Join us on Saturday, March 4th, at Jubilee Coffee at 11am for a meet and greet to kick it off!

Let's Get Real:

Did you know we offer a virtual alumni meeting AND an in-person alumni meeting? Welcome to Real Talk Mondays. RTM welcomes all CeDAR Alumni for an all-recovery meeting (non-fellowship specific). It is a casual more intimate meeting that welcomes the occasional cross-talk and double dip. On the last Monday of the month, join us for fellowship after the meeting at the Stanley Marketplace for a slice of pizza or ice cream. The meeting is held in the lecture hall at 6:30pm. Please wear a mask and enter though the side doors, Overflow parking is in the garage directly across from CeDAR. Thursday's alumni meeting remains on Zoom for now.

Sober not Somber:

In this feature we highlight upcoming activities within the recovery community. If you have any recovery-related events to put on the calendar, let us know.
  • 2/17 Burning Desire Sober Open Mic: This has become the Denver Metro's premier sober open mic event and it's heavily supported by CeDAR Alumni through emceeing, comedy, satirical stories and music. Anyone is welcome to come! The performances are great and it's fun to connect with others in the recovery community.
  • 2/19 Bowling Extravaganza: has sold out! We were overwhelmed by the response from you all so we will plan another bowling outing soon to accommodate the interest!

Your Online Hub:

CeDAR Central is the primary resource for CeDAR Alumni to access meetings and available resources. I recommend you create a shortcut for CC on your phone and bookmark it in your browser. If you have easy access to resources, you are more likely to use them!
